Help! Aluminium S caliper rebuild - leaking link pipe connections

Hi all,

I have rebuilt my Aluminium S calipers and unfortunately the link pipe connections are now leaking since I rebuit them.

I tightened them up a little more but could not stop the leak and dont want to overtighten the fitting.

Has anyone else experienced this and know how to fix them?

Maybe I should make new link pipes in copper?

If the seat in the aluminum caliper is marked, can this be polished out?

They are correctly built up as LH and RH calipers but I think perhaps I might have swapped the right and left calipers over as the castings are the same when stripped right back. When I rebuilt them the link pipes might now be at the oppostite ends to what they were originally so they are trying to seal where the brake nipples were originally fitted. I am not 100% sure I have done this but maybe it would cause the fittings to leak?

Looks like I need to get the link pipe and bleed port seats on the callipers re-faced/machined a they are scored

Anyone have any experience of doing this?

Quick update.

The ports for the link pipe and bleed nipples are different so make sure you build up the calipers correctly and don’t do what I did..

I managed to make up some tools and polished the seats up ok. Problem solved!

I recently rebuilt the front calipers on my early production 73 targa. I examined the bleed and pipe ports and observed no difference. So I was able to swap the pipes and swap calipers left to right, right to left without any issues. They are on the car and working well. Rob

I don't believe that is true. I have many of these calipers, and I've never found a difference. The link pipes are handed however.
