Barrett-Jackson OC, CA 2011
Swung by the Barrett-Jackson Auction, at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, this past Saturday. Not much of an Auction-Guy but . . . it's always fun to see what's up for sale, do a walk-through, chat-up some folks.
Not a lot of excitement at the venue. Big spectacle, lotsa stuff goin' on . . . just not my kinda cars. Ford-this, Chevy-that --- like going through any early-70s shopping center parking lot. 'European cars' were either VWs (including a 21- and a 23-window bus) or high-end exotics serving as props for 'car-care.' Like a black-on-black-on-black 458 (on dubs) shilling for Maguire's. Really? Does anybody actually drive these things?
Anyway, considering the kind of financial throw-weight available in that neighborhood, I felt kinda let-down. I'll be interested to see what SCM reports as to the results. At ten bucks to park, B-J might cover their electric bill.
My short take . . .
Car I'd most like to take home with me. Seen in the parking lot as I was coming in that morning. Low rear deck spoiler says '70.5. Z/28, RS, silver-on-black, stick. 370 Clydesdales . . . before headers, a hornier Holley, a boinkier bump-stick. A Car to Buy Now if ever there was one . . .
