To basket weave or not to basket weave??

I have been offered a pair of original door cards for for a '69-'71 car. I have a 1969 S B-series which was ordered with black leatherette interior. The trim in the lower dash panels is not basket weave and I think are original. What would it have had for the door cards - would basket weave be either the original fitting or appropriate - optional perhaps??

Door cards AND dash trim inserts should be basketweave.
