To stop all the speculation and helpful suggestions I can reveal that I saw photos of all the relevant numbers the other day after Vic sent them to me and it is nothing like it is portrayed to be. As an ex race car in a series in Australia that had all sorts of built up cars in it it is not really surprising. However it is based on the shell of a very early 1968T with the vin number (not production number because it was originally SWB) evident on both the dash stamping and the paint badge. It appears to have been raced as a "RSR" in the 80's as many similarly constructed cars were here in Australia built on both LWB and SWB shells. Talking to Vic I dont think he is unhappy with that result either.
I understand the real 0847 is alive and well in a collection in the USA

and while the 1973 vin number was stamped in the front it was the wrong fonts and wrong spacing

Well there you have it, thanks Hugh

The 68 chassis will also have the chassis number stamped under the cover is where the shift rod meets the transmission shaft.
Too bad. I owned a few Georg Loos Porsche's and it was a great team with most all of the Loos cars having very good history.
