Hi Rick,
Yes he is on it daily. The monthly bills attest to that  ;)
That said, it will slow down considerably during the winter, as the std collision work will pick up. I counted with 2 years at the shop to get a finished, painted body, and in 3 months they have done this much.
I am glad you approve of the work. Do not hesitate to yell if anything seems weird to you.
Believe me, I am watching the details.
Further things no one will see:
I was missing the brackets for the dash dials, and the knurled hand nuts. Did not feel like ordering. So I broke out the small lathe, some steel and alloy stock, and whipped these out. Need to buy a knurling tool.
The dials also have an oily film on the backside of the glass, and rusty bezels. I am taking them apart for a cleanup and a lick of fresh paint. The speedo and oil level/pressure need to go for Km/h and bar/liter conversion, so I am not touching them.
The new passenger floorboard is done and varnished, stored for reassembly. The driver side is getting there. I am using the kaputt passenger side one as donor for small pieces to let in. After a sand and varnish it will look... interesting.
Do it yourself, I love it.
We are getting to a pause in the work, for winter is coming, and time will be spent on more mundane work at the shop. It was factored in, so no problem.
Before that, they want to finish the rear and middle thirds of the shell.
The rear lid was bashed in in the left rear corner, that has been taken care of. The new right rear bumper has been adjusted to the chrome horn, and the center panel doctored in.
pff watching your post I see that I have thousands of hours left in small details. I have the wood just like you, and I didn't think about restoring it, but maybe, removing a top layer or something similar can save it!
Thanks for the posts !!
Learning!
End of holiday week, less updates will be coming.
I managed to start varnishing the driver side floor board and to reassemble 2 of the 3 gauges I am cleaning. If you look at the picture, you can see the hazing on the right side one, from the oily film inside the glass.
I have a question: is the rubber gaiter 911 611 921 00 the correct one for the main wire loom entrance/exit from the center tunnel? PET is not the clearest in that regard.
That one is for the heavy battery cable going to the starter.
Some small things before hibernating:
Floor boards finished. Trial fit is correct. On the growing shelf of "done" parts.
Rear lid, rear bumper metal work finished as well, in 2K primer for the winter.
The body shop guys even asked the color for the interior, the front and rear compartments, just in case… Satin black is correct?
