How were rallye plaques mounted on hoods?

    Hi.
I really the classic looks of rally plaques (i.e., Rallye Monte Carlo) mounted on engine lids and front hoods and wondering how they were mounted back in the day? I'd like to replicate the look but and should use adhesives, rivets, or bolts? And does anyone have close up pictures of how they were mounted? Thanks in advance.

In The Sixties, they were often riveted on the hood.

Plates were almost always mounted with small rivets or screws. Less often, they were crudely taped on with black electrical tape around the perimeter. Beginning in the 70's, some rallies used stickers. Monte Carlo and others stuck with actual plates well into the 1980s. It's a common error on restored/recreation/tribute cars to use a sticker instead of a plate - all depends on the specific rally and year.

When Carol and I show our 'rallye look' 911E, we attach the rallye plaque to the hood. The back of the plaque was done in two sided tape, and then a magnetic page was applied to the tape.
    Note...will not hold when driving.
