73S - First start in thirty years

    Following up on this thread:

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ighlight=annie

After thirty years not breathing a breath, Annie spit, popped, smoked and came to life again this morning. All we did was put in new plugs, wires and added fresh oil. The first couple of vids were with a bit of gas poured down the stacks. We plugged in the fuel pump, primed her again and when she started, we saw the injectors were seeping a bit. I knew right then the MFI pump was alive and doing it's job. After tightening injectors, she kicked off, smoothed out, and after a little prompting, idled on her own. The last vid shows her starting without added throttle, idle pretty much smoothed out and smoke cleared.

I am really amazed this old motor came back so easily. I hope Warren is looking down and smiling...

First fire (no fuel pump - primed stacks)

    Second

Third - fuel pump activated - started and idling without assistance (amazing)

Fourth - Starts and idles well and smoke cleared

Ed Mayo told me a year or so back that he'd brought plenty of stored/non run 911 motors back to life. That gave me some hope for Annie. What I was surprised and concerned about was how little compression it had before running it. After it ran for a while, it became a real chore to manually rotate the crank. I guess either valves were not seating or rings were sticky. Whatever it was, it seems to have come back really strong. and yes to the qualty of the engineering, materials selection and build quality Porsche put in to these motors.
