    Question 1970 911 S Correct painting and radio ?

We do a complete bare metal renovation for a 1970 model (delivered in 11/1969) European 911 2.2. S. Shold
the engine compartment be black ? I assume so. How is it with front compartment, black or body color ? We are
doing this car as close to the original specification as possible, thus this is important. The car has been ordered
with M440, antenna and laudspeaker but without any specified radio. What was the typical radio in these cars in
    1970 ?

There are many treads on this theme. Search:-)

yes, black in engine compartment, over body color, over primer, over shutz spray,(could use primer here also) over bare metal.

Yes, front luggage compartment is the same. Sometime in 1970/1971, the cars produced at Porsche dropped the semi matt black paint on top of the body color in the luggage compartment and in 1972/73 also in the engine compartment.

I have a '70 Euro model. The engine compartment appears to be a thin coat of dull black over the car's body-color. The front compartment appears to be a thin coat of body-color --- more over-spray than paint . . .

Actually, they stopped at the end of 69. A 70 would have a body color trunk compartment, albeit very thin paint as LongRanger suggests.

Some interesting details that I have discovered or that friends have pointed out to me:
(not necessarily limited to 2.2 cars either)
    1) While the bolts and flat washers in most cases are yellow zinc, the lock washers are black oxide (likely due to hydrogen embrittlement)
    2) The bolts holding the rear bumper corners to the body are socket head even though the parts manual identifies them as hex head
    3) Some of the screws holding the front fenders to the body (inside the trunk) were installed prior to paint and some were installed after paint

Details like this are why it is important to study the photos of original cars. =)

Was not there a difference between Karmann and Porsche? I thought Karmann painted the trunk compartment black and Porsche used body color? But I might be wrong..

    Regards

Nick, you are correct. Porsche stopped using the black in the front compartment sometime in 1970, while Karman continued using black in the front for approx another year.
