Engine build number for my 1970 911T.....please read!

Hi guys,

I just picked up my 1970 911T Targa yesterday, and I am having some issue with understanding if my engine # is correct or not for my car.

The VIN# 9110111119
The car is a US car with a 5 speed transmission.
Its stamped 911/07 which is correct.
But the engine # is 6107320 which seems out of range but I might not have the newest info, and quite frankly, I am getting a little nervous.

Any help for the newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure its not 1320? Those German 1's can look like 7's...

Not an expert, but from my info 6107320 would possibly be a sporto engine (911/08).
Are you sure it's not 6104320? I think that would be in the range for you VIN

Kevin, your engine number does not look out of line. From the limited info I have I would expect your engine number to fall in the range 6107***, just based on the engine numbers I have seen for Targa's before and after your VIN. You are no doubt waiting for your COA to confirm, or you could just call Porsche and they can look up the original engine number for you. It will take a few days before they get back to you.

Thanks guys. I did confirm that it is a 7 - 6107320
I am ordering my COA today. And the engine is definitely 911/07 - so not a sportomatic.
From the registry list, there are a lot of cars around my VIN with engine #'s around mine.

I think we know the red book is wrong on some of that...

I am hoping that the red book is incorrect. I man I bought the car from has had it since 1973, and has said to me that the engine in the car has been there since he has owned it. I made it very clear to him that for the price I was paying, I was ok if it was a replacement engine......so he had no reason to give me any misleading info. I just find it odd.

US '70 911T sportomatic engines were numbered from 6108001 - 6108374, and they were 911/08 engines. If you have a 911/07 engine it could not be a sportomatic.
