I've driven it (so far) 4,5k and its a very good "bridge" between the past and the present...
just enough DNA from the early cars with a nod towards the future of Porsche
I haven't driven a lightened/tuned version tho

Was never a fan of "playboy mid-life crisis" red. But the color is slowly growing on me after a year. After selling my 73 I found an 82 at a good price which was well taken care of. Since it is a mass-produced SC I had no problem making it more appealing to my eyes, as well as putting it on a severe weight loss diet. Adding SSIs and a sport exhaust helped as well. It took a car I would define as heavy and sluggish (after driving a 2.7RS spec) to one a 175lbs lighter but now with more spritely acceleration. Compared to the 73, this one has zero wind noise inside the cabin - a problem which I never solved using correct pieces in the 73 - and drove me nuts. This car is heavy and feels like it in the corners but also feels totally planted (less lively), especially on 7s and 9s. It is also extremely comfortable (ride and seats, cruise control for long interstate hauls). Never thought I would like an impact bumper car, but I have to say that without a doubt, I really like the change - if I want raw - I can take my 914-6 3.0. I must be over the hill and enjoying the descent.

What I love about me 78 is second gear around 5000rpms . In Virginia you can only go 55 in most places so 2nd gear is a real gas

I agree!!! Not only one of the best cars Porsche ever built, but in my opinion one of the best cars ever built period.
IMHO the best 911 ever but only for the early S. I had an '84 Carrera that was just the t*ts. It was German version Club Sport with no AC, no options, and very light.

Mine just got a "new" pair of sport seats, freshness courtesy of Tony Garcia. The interior reversion to the original brown is well under way.

2 year and 10k mile update!
She has been a real pleasure to drive, the original plan was to put her right and after I got the 73.5 back from the shop pass her on to a new care taker
oh well...boy time flies!
