    How do I remove old wheel weight tape?

    I have very old wheel weight tape stuck on the Fuchs and have tried WD40

    But with out any real progress, I don't want to use / try anything stronger for fear of harming the anodizing.

    I've used acetone on anodized Fuchs, does not do anything to the anodizing. Although I will admit to immediately following the cleaning with a vasoline treatment.

    I've soaked with simple paint thinner/mineral spirits and used a thumbnail under a shop rag........

    Carefully pull the lead part of the weight away from the tape...use a plastic tool. That should leave you with a thin layer of foam tape/adhesive. Soak a paper towel piece in 3M Adhesive Remover and apply to the tape. Let it soak for a few minutes. The adhesive will soften to the point you can use your finger nails and fingers to just "roll" the tape and adhesive boogers off the rim. The 3M product will not attack anodizing or paint. No metal tools...no abrasives...no aggressive solvents like laquer thinner, acetone, or xylene (Goofoff).

    smedley makes a good point on the acetone, paint thinners and such that I didn't mention. Those types of chemicals will not hurt the anodizing, but they will eat the accent paint, if any. The 3M adhesive remover is a better choice if there are painted surfaces nearby.

    heat gun, then clean up with 3m as mentioned above.

    Keep it away from the paint and use plastic wedge to pry the weight off, wood spatula should work too,

    Thanks Dave, The heat gun then scraping with a plastic putty knife and finishing up with WD40 did the trick.

    the glue was so old it was brittle!

    I didn't have a heat gun for years, they are very useful sometimes.
