    Missing engine compartment stuff

When my car came back from its resto, so much time had elapsed (2y) and so many (bad) things had happened that I did not notice this right away.. I'm missing the bits circled in red:

It doesn't prevent the car from being much more fun to drive than before, but I have an extra hole in the tin now, and as far as I know those part are gone and won't be found... (mechanic was let go, who knows if he sold them threw them away, lost them..)
Should I even attempt to find replacements ? How important is it to have this on for authenticity, is this something I'm gonna miss one day and will greatly affect my car's value? I don't plan on selling this car until I'm too old to get in it (or until social security collapses and I run out of food, whichever comes first).

Note how until now I've sidestepped the fact that I don't even know what they are ;-) Presumably some winter warmup stuff or pre-smog thingie?

    In my opinion...

Should I even attempt to find replacements? Yes, if you ever plan to sell.

How important is it to have this on for authenticity, is this something I'm gonna miss one day and will greatly affect my car's value? It will on some level.

    Greg,

This is usually called 'the flapper unit'... it's an air pre-heating regulating device that functions well/marginally in cold climes (Germany)

Yes, it's nice to have (and or keep) for originality ... However in most temperate climes it's unneeded.
Mine has been in my attic for 25 years.

As you picture shows there is a silver corrugated hose that comes up through the tin from the left heat exchanger and attaches to the bottom of the 'flapper' ...

I have the silver hose attached to my exchanger, coming up through the tin and capped and clamped...

In my '73 parts book it has the parts listed as:

    33 - Hose - 911.108.272.00
    36 - Clamp - 999.512.181.02
    38 - Regulator Housing - 911.108.015.00
    39 - Regulator Lever - 911.108.061.00

    Hope this helps

Since I have first generation SSI's I just capped the hole and, like Chuck, have the rest in a box.

I replaced the hose and the clamp on one of my cars last year. I got the parts from my local dealer for $50 or $60.
My flapper has a big crack in it, so I considered replacing it too but the nearly $400 price tag was too much, so I'm keeping an eye out for a reasonably priced used one.
