    1965/911 Wood steering wheel??

Guys I believe I have a VERY early steep steering wheel. The darn horn contact has nearly worn off the most important number. I know they were supposed to be aluminum. Tell me what you think.

Does a magnet stick to the spokes?

How bout a picture of the whole wheel? I can assure you that the horn contact didn't do that damage, either. A picture of the whole wheel and the interface between the rim and the spokes will make a positive ID very simple.

Your wheel is a steel wheel. That is one reason why it is in such good shape!

I know the obvious. The question is about the date. Its in such good condition because it hasn't been used in over 40 years.

Looks like it says 4-68, towards the end of the run.

    Demo,
Just curious why you assumed it was a '65 wheel when it's "obvious" to you that the spokes are steel? (BTW: I think your "steep" typo threw us.)

And that digit looks nothing like a 5. I vote 4-68 as well.

Because knowing Porsche in the early days, I do not assume that there no are exceptions to the rules of all 65's being aluminum. I don't see an 8 because the the sharp edge on the tail of the curve. In all of the pics it seems to be a faint following of a 5. I just don't assume its an 8 because of the curved bottom. When did they stop making the aluminum wheels?
