Thread: The best 1972 911S in the world?

Followed the restoration of this car while hanging out at Markham Motor Works. Remember Pete coming in most days to quiz Larry, Richard and Fred S. Richard was helping him restore the car, I believe Jack was painting it. He really went all out. Seems it turned out real nice.

For me the gold standard has always been the work done by Tim Goodrich. Tim would also duplicate the factory's "sloppy" work in his restorations. I remember the eyebrows he raised when they first showed the C2 cab with the over spray on the undercoating.

The photos make them a little shinyer?... They look good in person...As the rest of the trim.

BTW every car at this level has it's own place. They all have different amounts of original parts and finishes.
To say any car is the best is difficult....this car is very hard to pick at in person...
Easily one of my all time favorites....Most of my other favorites aren't shown to the public at all...
This is a good chance to see an all out..and maybe the best you'll ever see... restoration in person....
How can you ask 50 questions about wheels? Pete knows....

    Completely agree with Harvey.

Lighting for photos can make brushed aluminum look shinier than it appears in person. Seeing this car in person is what it's all about.

"Best" was used as a question in the article's subtitle (deck), because I knew it would never be answered completely to everyone's satisfaction. I was inlined to agree with the idea of it being so in my conclusion, but I was also aware there is probably a '72S time capsule hidden away that is even "better". That said, Peter's car was very well received at Parade yesterday and received 299.2 out of 300 points possible. Guess the judges liked it too!

Beautiful car. And I have to commend the owner for his excellent choice of headlamps.

Ok, I just have to know this. What did they ding him for? I know it's silly but …

I spent just a couple of minutes with Peter yesterday. Her said something about a slightly narrow gap somewhere...

Unrelated, a friend lost 1st in her class because she had a bug on her windshield.

I have never entered a concours in my life, and I'm not about to. This is tougher than autocrossing!

Slightly narrow gap?? Randy, you and I both were looking at the 700 mile silver car at Cambria and commenting on all the factory imperfections. I don't understand the judges. There can't be a solid rule on that. The factory manual in the body section says 4mm, but I don't think the production line got a copy.
