    No

They did make some in the G series continuation of using the 911/83 engine. I understand they were all produced as police cars.

My understanding from contemporary magazines was that this car left the factory as a US spec E and was retrofitted with a 911/83 engine and flares. Either way, wonder where it is now?

    No.
I was told there were many reasons.
It wouldn't help with the homologation.
The original idea was to build enough cars to qualify for racing.
The race department and others didn't consider the Targa a good platform for a race car.
The idea of using a Targa with RS parts was embraced by the 74MY.
The Factory people that I spoke to didn't understand it though..
But if it helps sell cars......
BTW we built quite a few RS formula Targas in 73-76...and a few Targa RSR types also.

    Thank you Harvey,
I think Targa looks cool with front RS bumper and rear RS duct tail RS fenders on 73 body........I am not a fan 74 MY impact bumper cars ( not in my taste )

    Thank you Ted.
As we know Factory build Sunroof RS Carreras touring .
and howmany RS Touring coupes Raced ? in my opinion if factory did put out Carrera RS Targas, would have sold a lot in 1973.
Think about it " Pure blood racing engine music ,well blanced, open air speed like Carrera 356 Speedster.
I am kind of thinking to do my 1969 Targa S like Penske Targa since I have the Carrera flares, aluminum duct tail and RS front bumper And
4 rare bird 911 R wheels, what else I can ask for, only problem I got plenty of rust

As you certainly know, the factory did just one 911 3.2 ClubSport in Targa form.
This car is now in Italy.

So a Targa RS 2.7 could have some sense, with the right gearbox and engine of course...
