Did Gauge Face Finish Change at Some Point?

All of my five gauges are dated between 9/69 and 11/69 but I notice that two of the faces have a brushed or flat black finish (left 2 gauges) while the other 3 have shiny black finishes. Did the finish change at some point on the gauges? I don't understand why there would be two finishes, especially as the gauges have dates so close together. I have an early '70. Does anyone know? I did a search but could find nothing on this. Thanks.

The S gauges will have the identical finish of the other gauges. The idiot light partial gauges that are the non S gauges do have a different appearance. My 69 shows that way with its' non S gauges as well.

Thanks gsjohnson. My car came with S gauges as an option so shouldn't they all be the same?

I think the "finish" differences are due to climate changes. My gauges have been in sunny California since new and, I'm sure, have a different look than those that have been in a cave in Bavaria all their lives.

Jim, that would make sense if all the gauges in a hot dry south car were different than the gauges in a colder humid north car but not if the gauges are different in the same car. Or maybe its because my car spent 40% of its life in the south (17 years) and the rest in the north and the faces are changing accordingly (40% of my gauges are flat and the rest shiny)

Staying with the S gauge idea identified by gsjohnson, can others with LWB cars identify if they have an S car and if their gauge faces are flat or shiny? Is it not just the two left gauges that get changed when a non S car gets the S gauge option? Also interested in those with non S cars and if their gauge faces are flat or shiny, or a combination of both? Thanks.

    Irish,
My (April build) 69S has been in storage in my garage for 38 years (not in a cave in Bavaria), and the left two gauges are flat finish and from the Tachometer on over to the right side they are gloss finish. Same as yours.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I find it unusual they would mix face finishes like that. My guess is others have the same thing and have never realized it before. I wonder why the outside 2 gauges have the flat finish, maybe they are closest to the window and they didn't want any glare ?
