    Repair warped valve covers?

Is there any way to repair warped valve covers that are the victims on overly ambitious wrench-turners?

Tape some fine sandpaper to a pane of glass, add some water and carefully slide the valve cover on this. I believe an orbital pattern is best. Replace sandpaper as necessary if it gets clogged with aluminum, get down to super fine grit.

My lower covers are the early style with six nuts so they are particularly difficult to seal. I have a mill so I took advantage of that and supported the middle with 1mm shims and clamped the ends to the table. After milling away the material in the middle, the cover's sealing surface was not flat but when installed the ends pressed much more tightly so that my leaking issues were resolved.

+1, this has always done the trick for me.
