Estimate is low for a car with that history. But then the chassis tag stamping might explain that.

The tag is interesting. This one better come with lots and lots of paperwork.

    Description:
PROVENANCE Paul Ernst Strähle, Schorndorf, Germany (acquired new) Eugene Kiemele, Seifertshofen, Germany (acquired from the above in 1970) Helmut Henzler, Frickenhausen, Germany (acquired from the above in 1971) Wilhelm Schapmann, Villingen, Germany (acquired from the above in 1972) Franz Gschwender, Munich, Germany (acquired from the above in 1973) Manfred Freisinger, Karlsruhe, Germany (acquired circa 1990) David Mohlman, Miami, Florida (acquired from the above in 2006) Current Owner (acquired from the above in 2007).

RACE RECORD ADAC Rheingau-Bergrennen, September 1, 1968, Bauer (1st in Class) ADAC Bergprufung “Klarer Wangen,” September 22, 1968, Bauer (1st in Class) ADAC Bergpreis Ulm, October 20, 1968, Bauer (1st in Class) “Preis der Stadt Heidelberg,” Hockenheim, March 9, 1969, Bauer (1st in Class) Grosser Preis von Österreich, Zeltweg, August 10, 1969, Linge/Bauer (1st in Class)

THIS CAR When Porsche decided to homologate the 1968 911 for competition purposes, they naturally started with the model that was equipped in the most spartan fashion–the 911 T. Production T models were a full 54 kg lighter than their “S” brethren, making them an obvious choice as a basis for a racing car. Clients were given the opportunity to buy a 911 T outfitted with competition equipment directly from the factory, instead of building it themselves.

The resulting cars have become known as the 1968 911 T/R and were built in very limited quantities in a range of specifications. Fitted with either a standard 911 S engine with 160 hp or a 210 hp, twin ignition, 906 spec engine, the cars could be equipped with rally equipment, special gearing, etc. to tailor the machine to the needs of the client. Depending on the source, 35 or fewer 911 T/Rs were built in 1968. According to the included Kardex from Porsche, the 1968 911 T/R offered here, chassis no. 11820721, was delivered new with a 911 S engine, rally equipment, hill climb gears, a locking differential, and a roll bar, among other items.

The 911 was sold to successful 1950s racing driver and VW/Porsche dealer Paul Ernst Strähle in Schorndorf, Germany. Strähle had earned a reputation as a serious competitor in his driving days by earning class victories in Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, 1000 Km Nüburgring, and overall victories in the Tour of Belgium, Tour of Corsica, Liege-Rome-Liege, and Adria rallies. Strähle was also German Motor Racing Champion in 1955 and German Rally Champion in 1958–a well-rounded resume, indeed. After retiring as a driver in 1963 to pay attention to his flourishing dealership, Strähle started “Strähle Autosport” in 1966, a team that successfully raced Porsches for many years.

It was under this banner that 11820721 was campaigned, with driver Roland Bauer at the helm. The car was entered in 18 races between June 1968 and September 1969, collecting five class wins. Importantly, Bauer was twice paired with Strähle’s friend and Porsche employee at the time, legendary driver Herbert Linge, once at the 1969 1000 Km Nüburgring where they failed to finish, and another time at Zeltweg for a class win. The fabulous T/R was then owned by a well-documented string of German racing drivers, with the car eventually competing in 45 events between June 1968 and June 1973.

By 1990, the Porsche was in the possession of renowned Porsche restorer and racer, Manfred Freisinger. Freisinger sold the car to David Mohlman in 2006, who sold it to the current owner shortly thereafter. As a genuine factory competition variant, this wonderful 911 T/R, running a correct 911 S engine, is presented in fabulous condition and ready for any of the multitude of events that it qualifies for. The scarcity of this model, combined with the fabulous specifications, provide any collector with an outstanding opportunity to own one of the great competition Porsches of the 1960s.

Seems like plenty of $$$ left to go through and straighten out all of the issues and still be ok on this car. The replacement front clip is a bummer, but not a deal breaker to me. After all, it was an old race car. =)
Always mystifies me why people restore these early cars and paint the rockers and wheelwells body color instead of the correct black. Black is correct, easier to do and adds so much "curb appeal."
