Blackstone Lab's take on "What oil should I use"

In Blackstone's July '14 Gas/Diesel Newsletter they have a great article where they ran some numbers to find out which oil performs the best. Turns out that there really isn't buch difference from brand to brand - including the the private lable stuff

What do I use on my Forester you ask? The answer - Mobil 1. Why/ Because I bought 6 4 gallon jugs from Target for $5.99 when they were switching to 5 gallon jugs.

    Happy reading:

So, they reported that modern engines with roller tappets seem to be ok with any high quality oil currently available. What do they say about older cars like ours that are high revving and use flat tappets?
