advice or suggestions on visit to Porsche museum

My wife and I are heading to Germany in a couple of weeks. We will be visiting a number of different cities with the help of some good friends who are German.

I plan to stop in Stuttgart to visit the Porsche museum. This will be my first visit. Would guess all the points of interest or things to explore will be obvious, but thought I would still post this inquiry.

Any advice about the museum or the factory from those who have been?

Thought about trying to get a peak at the Kardex for my 1973 911, but I think I've heard the Kardex doesn't really exist for cars later than about 1971.

Would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

    Regards

    Tim

Have not been recently, but if you want a factory tour, I think you have to arrange it in advance. Others here might know how to arrange that- I would start with a Porsche dealer or PCNA.

You can arrange a factory tour on line at the Porsche website. I think they start at 10:00 and last about an hour and a half. I'm planning on one this fall.

I was just there 2 weeks ago. Factory tours need to be arraigned months in advance. The museum is open and you only need to purchase a ticket at the entrance. They do have guided tours of the museum. You can check at the front desk for availability. They are done in different languages so you should check ahead. Self guided tours work very well. Be sure and get one of their recorders and just follow the instructions. The commentary is very informative and you can go in any order you want. We spent approximately 3 hours in the museum and my wife never got bored. You could spend days in there and still not feel that you saw it all, though.

Have a Steak at Christophorus in the Museum.
If you stay overnight in the Stuttgart region we could perhaps meet with some guys over here.
    Cheers

+1 on Christophorus. The lunch menu is great, too. The picture is just outside the restaurant in their open air seatingand is of My son, Nils Lantzsch (The man that is in charge of brake systems for all Porsches, except the 918) and me.
Note: Nils was NOT drinking beer, he was working and just took time out to meet us at the restaurant.

    Regards

You need to visit the M-B museum, located also in Stuttgart. Its stunning. I left the town thinking the M-B was the better one, even I was into Porsche. You need to see both museum to understand.

Over in France is the world famous Schlumpf Collection (now owned by the French state) with dozens of Bugatti's and other historic cars. Quite a sight..
