Question: May 1966 dash colour - black or body colour?

A question for the interior police: should my dash be painted black or body colour? I ask because I am removing the tape that held the wooden fascia in place and used a bit of acetone - the black paint came off to reveal the body colour underneath... the car was repainted in 1973...

    Thanks

    Stephen

The dash will have body colour as a base. Then the black is applied over top of the base.

Can you put the wood back without it showing?

For sure, there isn't much of the black paint missing, but I wasn't sure if the black was factory or added during the repaint. I have been renovating the wood... of course, damage was done at some point in the car's history when a 'modern' stereo unit was put in with a sawzall... but, whilst I could probably find another piece of weed trim, what I have been discovering is the care the factory put into the smallest details... the wood veneer is cut from one piece, etc... so maybe the butchery will become part of the patina!!!

Thanks to Dave also for his answer...
