    Is it just me or does anyone else think a 25+% span on the estimate indicates that the experts setting these estimates have no more confidence in understanding what the market's doing than anyone else?

    And we still know very little publicly about the car. Somebody here probably does, but the info presented says nothing about provenance, matching numbers, restoration, nothing. Yet

    But I love the color more and more...

    THIS CAR
    Perhaps no performance-tuned European sports car of the 1970s is more revered than the Porsche 911 S. From its debut in 1964 as the Porsche 901, the 911 model saw rapid and constant evolution in both specification and capability. The 2.4-liter models of 1972–1973 hold a place in many people’s minds as the ultimate expression of the early 911 S, having been fitted with the more robust “915” transaxle and receiving a displacement increase that offered a more relaxed, but still exhilarating, driving experience.
    This fantastically restored example of the 911 illustrates precisely why the model is so beloved by some of the most fanatical enthusiasts in the collector car hobby. Finished in its original factory hue of Royal Purple, the 911 S presented here is of uncommon quality and specification, offering the most demanding Porsche purist the opportunity to purchase the best of the best. Featuring such factory options as an electric sunroof, leather-upholstered Recaro sport seats, Koni shock absorbers, and tinted glass, this 911 S was obviously outfitted for both driving pleasure and attracting attention.
    Starting with a very sound 911 S chosen specifically for this project, the consignor set out to restore this Porsche to the highest level possible. The very capable experts at J&L Fabricating, who also maintain the owner’s impressive feet of vintage racing machinery, were directed to avoid compromises in all areas of the restoration. This included the finishes, which were applied by Jon Byers at Byers Custom & Restoration in Auburn, Washington, who has multiple Pebble Beach award-winning cars under his belt, including the 2008 Best of Show 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta.
    Porsche marque experts were brought in multiple times during the build to ensure that every detail was addressed authentically. Jerry Woods’ legendary shop was hired to rebuild the engine, which was left in factory specification, including its Bosch mechanical fuel injection system. All work performed was to factory specifications using NOS and original parts wherever possible.
    While all early Porsche 911 S models have seen significant market growth over the past decade, certain specific examples stand above the rest. This 1973 Porsche 911 2.4 S – with its remarkably unique period color scheme and extensively optioned specification – is a rare and unique opportunity that should be given the most serious consideration.

    I know one of the owners of this car, there are two different histories and cars being somehow melded into one. This is not the Italian delivery car.
