911 workshop manuals - gray or red binders?

I see eBay has several offerings for a set of manuals, and one poster (who has a set of original 'red' binder manuals) bad mouths the 'gray' binders that he suggests are inferior copies. I certainly need a set to put my mostly disassembled 73S back together and don't want to make a bad choice before I spend hundreds or many hundreds of dollars. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

The red binder is more then likely original, and he is correct the gray are generally copies, I don't know about them being "inferior"

I've been using the grey one for the last couple of years, and have found them to be more then adequate.

What I've found invaluable are a set of the parts manuals, best money I ever spent.

My understanding is that the grey ones are later reprints by Porsche. They are not copies. The red ones are 'period'.

I agree with 'classic' that the parts manuals are often much more useful than the workshop manuals in understanding how things come apart and go together...

Thanks guys...very helpful, and yes, in my case locating a parts manual seems very much worthwhile!

+1 on a parts manual. Lots of things in the workshop manual "assume" that you know the inner workings of an assembly.

I have a set of factory manuals in grey binders purchased new in the boxes from Stoddard. They are perfect prints in every respect and include all of the supplements and updates, that may not be included in original printings.

Does anyone have a source for replacement DIN sized outside binder (cover size 235 x 305 - paper size is 210 x 295 - 80mm hole spacing) for the repo parts manual that Stoddard sold in the 1980's/90's ... drat... mine have split and I have covers falling off.

Doesn't matter if they are just generic, any color will do, four post, 75 mm spline width. Porsche Maroon or Grey would be great. (Garage copy, darker color would be better).

    Thanks.

    - maroon hard binder parts manuals are vintage porsche originals
BUT the maroon soft cover parts manuals are early stoddard copies ...correct ?
