Unknown word here, as we generally use 'faeces'. I hadn't noticed that US/Aus spelling difference before despite my years of living in NY and Missouri.

Another one I didn't know. US spelling is generally far more logical than most of the UK derived spelling which is often a reflection of the history of the words and not their contemporary phonology. The many 'Englishes' are also subject to the impact of spelling errors over the years that become a new standard. We still have some here who still use 'programme' and not 'program'.
