    1971 911T question

Sorry if this is in the incorrect area. My dad just picked up a 1 owner 1971 911. It is curious because this particular car has only the rear flares. The COA as well as the engine and chassis confirms it as a 911T . The car has 20,000 original miles and stored in a climate controlled garage since the 20k mark. It has been salt tested with such minimal traces that it could be suggested as only being picked up by the evaporated salt water in florida where it was stored. Needless to say, it is a pretty sweet ride.

Long and short, we are trying to figure out if this 911T with rear flares is a unique automobile. Since it was a 1 owner, we are certain of the fact that the flares were not welded on and possibly factory pressed. This was evidenced when the paint job was refinished to ensure no flaws on the shell. And, photos were taken to document this. The only other additional features include a bored out 2.5 liter, new genuine leather, and an added Fuel Injection. Otherwise, the car has never been restored in any way.

Has anyone heard of such a production?
Is there a way to get it authenticated as unique yet original?
If it was placed on the resale market, should the carb be re-installed as well as the upholstery? Considering the engine has been bored out, would it still be considered customized?

here is a photo. And, don't mind the Fiat pics. That is my little restoration project.

    Your 71T has been customized.
The mirrors, headlights, wheels and ...fenders/quarters we not available in 71.
If there was no fender seam, then they replaced the quarters.
IMHO it would not be advisable to try to return to original.
"Otherwise, the car has never been restored in any way"
I think you'll find the car has been modified in many ways....
Not saying it is a bad thing....If you wanted a good candidate for a hot rod, a 71T would be a natural.
As far a resale, a good clean well done hot rod would make you more than trying to return to stock...

To add to Harvey's post. It appears to have rear flares from a 78 thru 86 911. It has 911SC/Carrera rear view mirrors, 16 X 7 front wheels and 16 X 8 rear wheels that look like aftermarket copies of original 911 Turbo Fuchs alloys. None of those things were available back in 1971. Like Harvey said, all of those mods are not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, a large population of 911 fanatics would consider the mods to be a plus. If it were me, I would just drive the wheels off that car and enjoy it for what it is. Trying to return it to it's original configuration would be outrageously expensive and counterproductive.

    Regards

Why ask us? What does the original owner say? I would think that would be your best source for confirming any and all of your questions. That's the beauty of buying an original owner car.

The front bumper is likely fiberglass and IMO the car has been completely repainted. What is the code stamped on the paint tag on the drivers side hinge plate? The front hood badge is not original and neither are the side stripes. What does the rear bumper look like??

But...but...but. This car will be worth at least a $100 K by next year. Better buy now.
