Which boot is correct for a 1973.5 CIS

    For the authenticity experts:

Im trying to determine which rubber shifter boot is correct for my 1973.5 CIS 911T. I seen both the small 356 looking rubber boot or the large multi layer rubber shifter boot. I have the 5 speed 915 transmission.

    Thanks

The large boot was installed when the 915 tranny was introduced for the '72 model year.

The large rubber boot was actually first installed in 1973. The 915 gearbox came out in 1972, but had a small boot for 1 year only. Starting in 1973 the shift mechanism was larger and therefore had a large boot that was the same up until the 911SC when it was changed to a leather boot.

I decided to just eliminate the boot and polished the housing. btw - It did have the big rubber boot which I've stored away in case the next owner doesn't like what I did.

I like that look, Richard. Not to mention the fact that it shows why you need a big rubber boot.

Right. The small boot was only used on the early shift console that was similar to the 901 console. The big aluminum console takes the matching big boot.

So if my car is a 73.5 with a 915 Transmission it would have come with the bigger shift boot?
