Engine Case # 900484 casting numbers as to sequence

Thank you in advance for your help,

My engine # is 900484 and if i am correct the chassis # it came out of is 300399(this should be the 2nd car built of 9 on Feb 1st 1965) the date/sequence number is 901/01 with 384 under it does this seem correct?t The car was listed on this site in 2009 and was in Northern Italy would love to buy the car and restore or get the engine back to its rightful place if anyone can help in this regard?. It seems everyone has an opinion about a 51 year old engine I am looking for the narrow gap that is sometimes referred to as the truth or the best know truth as to the documents. The engine is complete and I may pull it down to verify the casting#'s any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Kind regards,

Dirk lost in the 901 facts and fiction section of engine casting numbers

    Hi Dirk,
the coding 901/01-384 for engine 900484 is correct.
I would be highly interested to know whether your engine has casting dates. I have a few early engines and so far, my assumption is that very early engines did not have the casting dates on either half. Question is when did they appear.
Could you maybe check your engine and let me know whether you find casting dates in the areas circled below (or anywhere else)?
    Cheers, Jacques
