I think I cut an inch out of my strap as I had an original for comparison, will check later and report. Gled
I had a chance to look at my notes again and re-measure. Other than being shorter the ends of the Norma clamps are the same. Large fan strap is marked 266. Appears to be a diameter number. Small strap is marked 248. The inclosed photo shows a circumference measurement from the loops at the ends of the strap. Tightening or loosening the strap doesn't affect this measurement. Gordon
I've become a bit of a Ben Coles mouthpiece of late! ….I make no excuses and the only affiliation is that of a very satisfied (paying) customer.
When the engine build for my Mongrel steered towards that of an authentic 2.5 litre race motor it's been Ben that's supplied many of the rare race parts that I've needed….sure, perfect originals would have been preferred but go source/afford them!…..and anyway Ben's products are indistinguishable from the real thing in terms of manufacture, materials and appearance
Just lately not only has Ben taken on the task of reproducing race 226mm small fan housings in magnesium, when I was made aware that the Magnet Marelli distributor I'd purchased was a later type and not correct for 2.0/2.2 cases, he said reproduce the earlier dizzies as he'd had other enquiries and wanted to add them to his range.
Ben has been sending me through a few photos of the process……really interesting stuff which I think others will appreciate so posting here……

The range of MM distributors developed of the years, you'll note the later type for 2.4 cases onwards had an integrated cast clamp….
…when remanufacturing these items you obviously need an original to replicate from…
…seen here with one of Ben's later type castings…
….moulds produced…
….prototype casting…
…next to the original…
…parts sourced for the internals…
…and these lumps of steel…
…are transformed into spindles…
…as I said elsewhere…...clever stuff!
I'll post additional photos of the process as I receive them from Ben including those of the fan housing which he's really excited about.
More soon…
Cheers,
Darren

Mad skills! Ben does very impressive work.
Love stuff like this. A good friend recently went through a similar ordeal making intake manifolds for his Gmünd coupe. You will not believe the port size in these early engines. Fascinating stuff.
