Or put in terms of market forces...In a fair market, if Longhood S Coupes were made in a ratio of roughly 2:1 to Targas (they were) and survival rates were higher for Coupes (I bet they were; worthless, unloved, leaky Targas would have been the first things broken up for parts by repair shops back in the day, especially in Europe) you would probably need to maintain a ratio of 3;1 or maybe even 4;1 of Coupe buyers to Targa buyers to keep similar condition Coupe prices ahead of Targa prices, based on current supply/demand.

I would love a really nice 2.2 S Targa if anyone disagrees and has one they are bored of.

If you want an all weather, daily driver or a ragged edge track car, buy a coupe. But with the spike in values, there are not as many guys out there now who want 200k plus daily drivers or classic cars as Armco fodder. So if you are doing fine weather only road driving, why wouldn't you want to be able to take the lid off?

It's a personal thing, but with the roof stowed and the sun shining, I think the targa is a thing of beauty. Happy to buy the rarer car, more expensive when new, at a discount while it lasts.

It's been postulated for years that targa values would surpass coupe's for all the reasons you stated - maybe that's happening right now.

The market for these cars seems to have gone flat. The junk that people tried to sell at Monterey didn't help the market one bit. The next major price check will be at Amelia.
