Anyone remember these?
Penske had these made up for the 1974 IROC cars. A number of the drivers were used to crash boxes. Penske wanted to make sure they knew they had to use the clutch when shifting.
I got this about 10 years ago from someone here. I just don't remember who it was.

A few spares on the trailer. And the winner.
After 1 year Penske switched the IROC to Camaros. He was very happy with the Porsche but it seems that Porsche sent him a bill for the cars. Even worse they expected to be paid. Chevrolet simply gave him the necessary cars.
The late Joe Hoppen had some interesting stores about how all of this came about.
Speaking of shift patterns. A team I know hired AJ Foyt to drive a 935 in the 24 Hours of Daytona. Before the race he wanted to know how he should shift the car. The crew chief explained that it was just like a VW. AJ's reply was "Do I look like the sort of guy who drives a VW?"
They found a VW Gulf in the parking area and let AJ practice in it before his stint. They also won the race that year. AJ won Indy, LeMans and a number of NASCAR races. Smokey Yunick called him the best driver he knew. Smoke said that AJ could drive junk to the winner's circle. He would beat the car into submission.
