    No Starter

    Posted this on a Pelican but thought to repeat here.

    Pulled off 40 to get gas. When I tried to start, no joy. No sound, no click, no nothing. Have juice as all gauges working fine. Suggestions have been wiring or heat soak on starter. It literally makes no noise what so ever. All I have done is drive it. Thoughts?

    David,

    A heat distressed starter is my first guess... it's happened to me. It came out of nowhere the first time, and the other couple of times I knew what it was before I eventually changed it out..... Try starting it again after about 45 mins of cooling off and report back........

    Thanks Chuck. Just odd. So I guess I'll sit in Tehachapi for a bit and contemplate my next move.

    Do I hear you saying it should be changed out?

    You can also try tapping it with a wrench or other suitable tool.

    Depends. On my '71 it is on the driver side sway bar mount.

    ..... Hmmmm, not sure of your rig, but on a 915 gear box it's on right side up high on the 'bell housing'.....

    You can also try tapping it with a wrench or other suitable tool.
    It can't hurt.........

    And just in case it's a stuck Bendex grear (which it's probably not) try putting it second gear and rocking the car back and forth...

    If it's a cooked starter I've found they don't heal themselves.... It will need to be changed...

    Some of the pros should jump in.........

    Try squirting water on it to cool it down, common on SWB.

    When you replace the starter be sure to get the 1.5 hp. version, SR68 X Down here where high temps are an everyday occurrence that is the fix. Assuming of course no other electrical problems.

    Gents, thank you for the responses. Cleaned the leads and found the positive loose. Thought that might do it. Nope. So it's sitting in the Carmel Lodge parking lot facing downhill for a bump start in the morning if it doesn't start. If it needs changed who to call here in Carmel/Monterey?
