Reference: 380MM steering wheels - THE TRUTH

Edited in view of Allen’s correction to his prior post — following the edit it now shows the correct RS 806.10 steering wheel part number for the early RS as per the input from a number of early Carrera RS owners / documented cars plus it aligns to the factory parts manual for the Carreras RS wheel ( uniquely 806.10 is marked 1 in Carrera 2.7 column).


The different factory document in image (attached) shows only one steering wheel part number for Carrera RS with conversion packet M491. It lists this M491 380mm wheel as leather wheel part number 914.347.901.00. This M491 factory parts list was published in Feb 1973 by Porsche at time when Carrera RS M491 were actually being assembled. It is hard copy ( not online PET) and would’ve had a lead time but it is a simpler document than the 72/3 parts list. Information in a hard copy factory source contemporary with the model might inform discussion on the correct M491 wheel for those interested in a relevant factory datapoint.

I don’t have an M491 so personally less concerned about things posted here being correct about M491. However in skimming through posts on the thread it occurs to me a steering wheel 914.347.803.10 dated September 1973 would be after the whole 73 Carrera RS model build programme was completed? Maybe pertinent if using that wheel as an authentic reference example of model 73 M491 steering wheel?
