What's the skinny on the "914.347.081.10" wheel - flat hub front/recessed hub rear? Thanks

    Hi Mike and Allen,
Below are photos of the wheel, Upon closer inspection I'm wondering if this was leather but has had the cover taken off it (so its the foam base), This is based on the imprint of the under fold at the join, It may have been "refinished" at some point, the foam is oval with a cross section of 19x23mm. I'd appreciate your opinion. Either way I'm going to recover it and it will make a nice wheel.

Yep, numbers don't usually lie. That is a classic leather covered wheel and the rotted leather has been removed. You can even see where the leather came down below the soft rubber spoke areas. Thanks for the follow up !

    Thanks Allen
My only remaining question is what then is the difference between a 914.347.805.10 (914/4 Leather Wheel) and a 914.347.806.10 (914/6 Leather wheel)? I know that some posts above list 914.347.805.10 as the 914/6 Leather but that's not my (nor the parts manuals understanding)
My 914/6 Wheel below, which 1 measure as 23mm across the narrow part of the oval profile, which would be consistent with a 19mm + leather?

This is a hot potato issue..in terms of what the "Real" RS wheel is, but it is agreed by most that an authentic RS wheel is the 806.10. That being said, other than the part number, the 805.10 and 806.10 are identical ! Thanks.

Cheers Allen, Yes, I wouldn't claim mine (dated 4/70) is a "real" RS Wheel but this is always a problem when something is a spare, I'm wondering if the 914.347.805.10/914.347.806.10 difference is simply supply chains, one would have been assembled by Porsche and the other by VW, And re the Carrera using a 914 part no, Porsche were looking for all sorts of cost savings in 73

I have an interesting wheel and would very much appreciate some input from the experts devoted to this thread. This wheel came to me via a 911T that had been modified in the 1990s to an RSR look with "as many correct parts as could be found." I hated the car and barely kept it a year, but I loved the wheel and it has been in my garage for a decade. Thanks for your input.

914 347 803 10 and the date code Sept, 1973 make it a "real" Porsche 911 RSR steering wheel. It was found on RSRs and was also available as a spare part. Cool wheel. Thanks !

Can someone confirm that all factory leather covered wheels had some kind of an under layer before the leather wrap went on. In other words leather did not go directly on the bare plastic wheels?
