Thread: Early engine lid question

    Early engine lid question

All, I am looking for some detail pictures of the black color scheme behind the engine grill on an early engine lid used through mid '68 (with the center bar).

The lid on my car (believed to be original, car was built late August / early September 1967, so MY68, PY67) is currently all light ivory and I would like to make it right. Any close ups available? Where does the black stop and the ivory start?

    Thank you,

hmmm. that is what mine is. I read somewhere (Johnson's book??) that there is a black area behind the grill. Maybe on later cars only?? This is what mine looks like today...

Thank you Moito and for the link John. Looks like it's correct after all? No black on late 67 thru 68. Learned something new again!

If you search "black paint under grill" in the Technical Section you will find many who believe the under grill should be painted black for 67 MY.

Also, there was a white 67 911 early production car restored by Pete Sorensen and the under grill was black. You can see photos of this car if you search Pete's name in the "For Sale" section.

jules, I have written down in my '67 notes that before 307950 you will see black under engine lid grill and after 307950 you will see body color. Source: Info was posted somewhere here a while back and I jotted it down for my own information.
