    Marchal Ampilux install wiring questions

How does one install a set of Marchal Amplilux or Cibie Biode headlights? The stock wiring on our cars as the 3 prong plug.. and there is only one plug on our lights where as the biode/Amplilux lights have two plugs and two sets of lights...

I am not sure how the Ampilux works as it came out a little later than the Biode but Biodes have two H1 bulbs per lamp. One is used for dim and one for main beam but they were always wired so the dip bulb was lit whenever the headlamps were switched on and both were illuminated when main beam was selected.

You will need to modify the plugs and I would wire the system using good quality relays from either Bosch or Tyco to protect the dip and main beam switches.

They were abandoned after the H4bulbs were introduced and Cibie produced a single bulb headlamp known as the Z180 which was better than the biode and gave an excellent dip pattern in fog. The H180 was quite poor in comparison.

so i got them today. looks like they do in fact have three prongs... well wires with male connectors on them.

so could i in theory just take these and plug them into the prongs that are on the stock headlight plug/connector? and which do i connect where?

(sorry to be daft... but these diagrams are like greek to me.. and dont make much sense)

    Harry,

Unfortunately my 72T is in the UK and I'm here in Singapore, otherwise I'd go 'look see' - suggest you email Bob at www.bobwatsonporsche.co.uk who originally wired up my Ampliluxes and presently looks after my car.

    Harry,
I removed the three prong Hella female part from the car and spliced in the proper female connectors when I had my Marchals. Same deal with the Biodes.

I removed my headlight earlier tonight to replace a bulb so check out the pics I just snapped with my phone. I have the upgraded relay/wiring kit on my car so your wire color may be different. From the car:yellow is regular beam (center bulb) and red is high (lower bulb). Black is grounded to metal tab inside headlight bucket then to assembly.

As I recall there are two types of the three prong female connection from the car. I think I simply cut mine. However, when I got the upgraded relay kit there were two brand new Hella three prong female connector with push in type tabs to hold/release the wires.
