Prouction number font stamping under knee pad

    Hello guys,
I am looking looking at an E series 911 built in June 1972. This dash serial number has been checked in relation to where is should be on the production run and its ok. The VIN number also checks out and is in the original font next to the petrol tank.
However the dash serial number that is stamped might need looking into further. It is the correct height but is very defined and the zero's look slightly rounder than I have seen before.
Can you tell me if the stamps used at this varied at that time and if some were stamped clearer than others.
Any example photos would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Pete

Perhaps post a photo here and let the board experts chime in!

Thanks Dave that's great. The car I am looking at is more like the first picture on your list with number 1090500 with the more rounded zero's. I am relieved about that because i could only find pictures of the more straight vertical edged type. They must have had a few sets of different style stamps at the factory.
    Cheers

I am now getting to checking these other numbers that you are all discussing. Where exactly is the dash serial number? what if anything must I remove to see it? Any help with removing is appreciated so I do not do any damage to parts. For example what is the trick to removing the knee pad? All help is appreciated.
    Thanks

That is very odd for what is probably a 1984 model. The year digit should be 4. I need to know more about this car.

Thats twice I see my dash number posted, so I guess I have no need to post it. It looks like they had a heavy hand and did not have the tool square when they punched the 3 and 8. Quite a dent compared to some others.
Pete, you say the stamped number by the gas tank looks correct. You don't mention the aluminum vin plate at the front of the trunk, or the plate on the drivers A pillar.
From my reading, the windshield vin is the most likely to give away if not original.
Any chance you are going to post a picture of yours?
