    Not kosher.

Looks like material was removed and new material spackled into place and then somebody just grabbed random punches and hit them light, heavy and in one case, twice. No stars? No worries! Just skip em.

the presence of a type number indicates it came from a factory-assembled engine.

    Here is a 68 case.
Has all the numbers and stars to compare except the 1.

While we are the subject of 68' engine numbers. I was just curious how many engine numbers have only one star before the number, and none after the number? Here is what I am talking about...... are any of yours like that? This is my engine I bought to maybe eventualy end up in my 1968. Is this unique to a 68' (One star?). I see the one above has two. This is out of a 1968 "L" US Coupe.

Here's what a correct number from a close numbered engine should look like...

The number is correct for a 1968 911S, but missing the stars is not good. On the right edge of the photo is the type # 901/02 and a build #. Please post a photo of that if you can; that would be most telling.
