Stabilizer Bar Covers -- what is the restoration standard?

    Friends,

A couple of questions regarding the caps that cover stabilizer bar holes in the SWB inner fender...

The SWB cars have a 'through-the-body' stabilizer bar. Depending upon whether the car was equipped with a stabilizer bar, it either has 'open' caps for the stabilizer bar to pass through, or 'delete' caps (covers) which covered the holes where the stabilizer bar would have passed through. The caps were secured by 3 hex-head bolts and weld nuts in the inner fender.

Please note that the inner fender is shot with bodyschutz, which covers the 'delete' caps (regardless of how they are finished).

When you remove the 'delete' caps, you find that they are yellow plated, which seems odd, given that the yellow plating is subsequently covered by bodyschutz.

The 'open' caps (used with stabilizer bars) sometimes are coated with bodyschutz, and sometimes not.

First, what is the 'standard' for restoration of the stabilizer bar 'delete' caps? (It seems silly to re-plate 'delete' caps when they are subsequently covered with bodyschutz.)

Second, are the 'open' caps supposed to be covered with bodyschutz, or not?

Thank you all, in advance, for sharing your wisdom.

    Thumbs up

Not sure if this helps, but these from a very original early production '71E ......

It looks like schutz, body color, black paint, then yellow plated cups...
Again, not sure how it works for SWB cars............

I would think the delete caps are simply normal caps that were pulled before the perf stamping then all plated with the same process. Since roll bar mounting, or not was probably done after shutz and paint, they should be bare plating.
