Front mounted oil tank on 72 race car

    Dear community,
    dear experts

I recently bought an old porsche race car, which has several technical conversions and some accidents
during it's active time. Most of the conversions are known and it's up to me to decide which technical status I
    like to bring back.
But for one feature I have nearly no information. It's seems that the car had an front mounted oil tank installed.
The oil lines went through the cabin and came out short by the smuggler box in the trunk, from there they went
to an fender mounted oil cooler. MaxMoritz was converting the car to an race car with a lot of parts from the
ST conversion kit. Bus as far as I know, Porsche never offered someting like an front mounted oil cooler.
    (Beside 934 and 935 variants).

Question, do you know about a German or European car from the early 70ties with an fron mounted oil tank???
If yes, do you have detailed information about it? I would like to recreate this feature.

You're intermixing oil tank and oil cooler, but I assume you mean 'cooler' The earliest front cooler install that I'm aware of would be the 911R's, and I'm sure there must have been some before that. Production front coolers started with the 69'S'

There were race cars built with front mounted oil tanks. I am unaware of any built by the factory but that does not mean it did not happen. I have seen oil tanks mounted in the smugglers box location. They were so located for weight distribution. Front coolers were as Ed stated normal in production as well as race cars.

    Hi there,
no I am not mixing up, I really mean front mounted oil tank.
I am sure it was not a factory option in 1972, but as well not an MaxMoritz option.

Let me change the direction of my question, which is the oldest 911 you have seen with a front mounted oil tank?

Perhaps mine? First race according Wagenpass in April 1973.

Unfortunately, I can only post pictures of the holes for the oil lines throught the cabin and from the cabin to the trunk.

The front oil tank was removed and a 2,4l tank was later again added.

1976 934's were the first circuit car to have front oil tanks. RSR's still had rear 1/4 panel tanks. Gled
