March 1966 Karmann 912. Single row with alignment punches. Also round discs on the inside sealed in place with a ring of tar.

there is an useless metal ring in the dent on the passenger side where the wooden floor board sits.

i have never seen them on the other floor dents(only round tar plates pressed into the sealant )....but on SV s pics it looks like there are METAL rings on all dents which actually makes sens (not so on the one pictured below since it is the only one that is not punched )
sometimes you can find them also in the dents of the rear seat pan

Franz, excuse me for being ignorant. why do metal rings or plates make sense? what is the whole purpose of the dents or any inserted tar or metal rings, discs?

in the factory they dipped the shell in a degreaser and in order to get the fluid out even from the lowest point of the body they made this dents with U shaped punching ....bent the lashes open before dipping and after they closed the drains again.... somehow they had to seal the punching .... PO dislike getting wet feet ...and so they used tar or whatever this material is .....

the one dent near the passenger floorboard has no punching (at least i have never seen it punched) so there is no need to seal it.

Gents, today I saw car 300835 for sale on ebay. It most probably has original floorpan (pic below) and it shows 1 row of indents. Now this means that between 300700 (my car with original floor w/o/ indents) and 300835 they changed to the singe row of indents.

the punched holes appeared later after the circles ...have a 301xxx with the 3 indents per side but no holes.

Here is the floorpan picture as taken from a thread of mike b. on his first owner family property 300814. Also 1 row of indents, further narrowing the change from no indents to 1 row down to somewhere between 300700 and 300814.
