Early OE headlight gaskets trim gasket versus what "they" sell these days

For the past 30 years, every place I have tried sells a headlight trim gasket that is too thick. Here are photos and measurements of an OE chrome trim to fender lip gasket from Ol' Ivory (Sept 1966 '67 911S). Measurements are approximate.

    OE Gasket (real rubber):
In cross-section, the top or forward facing OE gasket has three "steps" and in total, is 7.5 mm wide.
The first step inner radius section is 1 mm thick and 2.5 mm wide.
The second step (center) is 3.75 mm thick and 1 mm wide.
The third step outer radius is 2.75 mm thick and 3.5 mm wide

No, the numbers don't add up as there is a curved transition between the first and second steps.

What all the vendors (Stoddard, PB Tweeks, Automotion, International Merchantile, etc. ad nauseum) have been selling for the SWB application since 1984 (foam rubber):

In cross-section, the top or forward facing OE gasket has three "steps" and in total, is 7.75 mm wide.
The first step inner radius section is 1.5 mm thick and 2.75 mm wide.
The second step (center) is 6.25 mm thick and 2.25 mm wide (not including tapered section).
The third step outer radius is 5 mm thick and 2.25 mm wide

Photo 1: OE in cross section. Left to right: step 3, step 2, step 1

Photo 2 and 3: OE forward (front) view. Left to right: step 3, step 2, step 1

Photo 4: No wonder the damned things don't fit! OE on left, "other" gasket on right

Photo 5: "Other" gasket on left, OE on right: cross-section

Great info! One always ass-u-me-s that if the parts are offered for sale that they've been reproduced correctly.
What to do? Save the O.E. ones? or somehow trim or sand/flatten the current offerings to size?

I, for one, never make such an assumption.

Terry sells the "correct" thinner one at Mercantile....his catalog is a bit confusing. Call and ask for the right one.
