    73 S - engine to oil tank oil line issue..

    The original one piece metal and rubber oil line that connects from the back of the engine to the oil tank is NLA from Porsche and has been replaced by TWO lines. While the metal line that runs across the back of the engine terminates in the correct location, the second piece - the rubber hose line with crimped connectors shown in the below photos is about an inch too long. It will connect, but its extra length causes several kinks that can't be eliminated no matter how the connections are turned/swiveled. I am curious to know if anyone has replaced the single line with these replacement pieces and used them successfully. I'm hopeful that ordering another rubber line piece from Porsche might yield one that was cut and assembled correctly to the proper length. My Porsche parts guy researched this today and indeed there seems I have the correct and only part, although too long.

    Had no idea Porsche had done that. Haven't bought one of those for a few months. I'd send the old one to Brad Davis (on this board) who makes and/or repairs oil lines. He could (I'm certain) re-crimp a new hose on your existing line.

    UPDATE - my Porsche parts guy was nice enough to overnight another one to his location with the hope that it was cut and assembled to the proper length...no luck. No luck too in going to several hose/hydraulic outfitters today. While they had metric fittings, nothing that would work. It is my understanding this is a 'return' line, but does it have to contend with pressure? If not, wonder why Porsche had it seemingly overbuilt with heavy duty crimped ends. The rubber hose below it that also runs from the oil tank to the engine oil cooler is thick rubber, but connects with band clamps. Thoughts/explanations would be most appreciated.

    Thank you, and yes, I certainly will do that. I also learned later that this line I the feed line, not the return line as I had understood. P.S. does Brad have a early S user name? Thank you.
