Help with alternator problem.... And what's this for?

    Hi,
I've just finished rebuilding a 79SC engine and fitting it to my 70T. The engine runs well, apart from a flat spot that i need to sort, but i have a problem with the alternator. I had the alternator rebuilt. Its been tested and works fine apparently, but its not charging. I suspect that i have a wiring problem. The engine was originally a CSI sporto engine and now its running PMO's with a manual box. Here's the questions.....

1: wiring. Its not clear to me where the wires from the alternator connect to on the 14 pin connector. According to this, i should have connections to pins 2, 11 and 14 on the 14 pin connector.
    - Pin 2 is yellow on my car which suggests starter to me. There is no connection from B+ on the alternator to pin 2, but there is to pin 14. Should i have a connection to pin 2 from B+
    - pin 11 is connected to +61 on the alternator (blue cable)
    - where does the black cable on the alternator connect to?

Here's a photo of the back of the alternator.

2: Second question which could be relevant. As stated above, the engine was a 79 cdi SC engine. There are a few spare connections. I didn't have the donor car so i dont know where it went, but it would appear to be able to plug in the 3 pin plug in the photo to the connections in the 70T engine bay. However, these are already being used. Any ideas what these are?

I'm struggling to read to wiring diagrams as whilst they're logical, they don't show where on the car the relevant connections are.

Looks like my problem could be the blue wire to the voltage regulator. Plenty of ideas for me to test here:

The three pin plug fits into the bottom of the voltage regulator - the small rectangular silver-coloured dome top box next to your cdi 'Ignition' box. Without this connected your alternator won't work for sure
