For those of you that bought your pre-74 Porsche after 1990 or so

Just thought I would throw this out there as a topic of discussion. After being in the market for a Porsche for more than 2 decades, it was always a tough decision on what and when to buy one. The advice I often received from many a Porsche owners always seemed to boil down to this. "Buy the newest one you can afford." Time after time. So, being a guy that likes vintage cars and oil leaks and stuff always going wrong "it's a sickness yes" I just could never pull the trigger on that kind of advice. The cars kept coming out year after year like a new freshman class in college, yet, the "affordable" newer Porsches just never really seemed to make me want to pull the trigger. Of course they were all pretty much awesome cars, but I sill loved the older 356's, 911's, and the 914-6's etc. Anyhow, just curious if this was advice that was given to some of you as well and obviously some have gone both routes, vintage and modern, but which one do you cherish more and which one gives your more enjoyment, thumbs up, etc.

    Just curious.........

I followed that advice and ended up with a '66 912. Go figure. The truth is, I preferred the '66 or '67 MY to '68 or '69. 356's are great but not affordable, and 912s are like way upgraded 356s in my way of thinking. The next most affordable Porsches I would consider would be '79-'82 SC's but they can have their problems and are not so desirable to me. The next most recent affordable desirable Porsche would be a Boxster. I never even considered one but I hear they are fun to drive.

In the 80's had both (80 SC, 87 Turbo) and just liked the early 911s (70S, 70S) better so sold the newer and kept the older one. Very lucky choice. Have found the older ones highly reliable/drivable too. Several long trips (1000+ miles each way) with no issues. (knock wood)
