    Question on engine number

    Hi all,

Purchasing a 911 and I have a CoA that lists the engine number as "620522" but the engine in the car is "6210270" and advertised as original.

I know CoA's are notorious for mistakes but if the engine in the car is indeed original what do you do about a CoA saying differently? Have they ever been know to correct them or are you SoL on that front?

    Thanks all

You are missing a digit on the 620522 engine number. Without this correct number, we can't answer the question unfortunately. The 6210270 number is a 1971 engine type 911/01 that was originally installed in a 1971 911E coupe according to my references.

Hi Gearby, Unfortunately that truncated number is what the COA lists. :/

Is it possible that the 6210270 engine would be installed in a 1970 E?

Did a little more research and looks like an engine swap was made at some point... thanks all.

As you have determined, the current engine is from 1971 and therefore cannot have been originally installed in a 1970 car. The COA can be corrected for free since there is an obvious typo; likely engine is 6200522.

Thanks Dave, I came to the same conclusion that it was probably 6200522 given how many E's were made.

That said, I wonder what sort of price adjustment one would expect with a same displacement/type non-matching motor.
