Time to Model/MY Segment the Registry For Sale section?

I decided to post this here and not further grey the already greying of the '65/66 FS thread (you know the one).

Why doesn't the Registry take the lead on these grey areas of vehicle nomenclature and segment the site For Sale section into a couple of simple groupings of cars; not for all years, but for the main determinants that the market might be looking for:

    e.g. back of envelope example:-

    For Sale section:

    '64 901
    Jan '65 to July '65 build 911
    MY 66 911
    SWB 67-68
    911S 2.0, 2.2, 2.4
    MFI cars
    CIS cars
    1972-3 external oil filler cars
    RS, RSR

....or any other permutation (???)- I'm not sure what to do with T,E LWB's ?

this might take away any grey claims- although might increase the moderators workload.

Now, all we'd need to do is agree the '65 split........easy.
    '65 901 SA '119' - 1st RHD Customer Delivered 911 Worldwide; 5710 Stone Grey/Green Leatherette 3 owners from new.

BUT that would mean we need to put up with impact bumper cars (nothing really wrong with them!) as the PY73 included a bunch of those CIS cars. And if we have those, what happens to the 73.5 2.4 CIS?? Is that a 'stock 73'? Then we kinda orphan the early 73 (MFI) cars as they are not really 72 and no 73 either and the external oil filler cars are no longer 72, but 71.... aaargh! AND the 1989 speedster is suddenly an 88!!!

Man, the 240Z guys have it so much easier.

The For Sales/Wanted has 5 sections now. Changing it to 14 would be horribly confusing, imo. Not to mention the groupings are arbitrary, you pointed out yourself the problem with where to place T's E's SWB/LWB etc. I think it works pretty good as-is. There just aren't that many long nose cars for sale anyway.

As for the "65 split...easy"? Why use an arbitrary MY split? Why not go solex and non-solex as some would advocate? Or 2 screw dash? Or the 4 screw horn grill? Or select the cut off the wood dash registry uses - wood dashes Or the pre/post aluminum steering wheel group. Er uh... easy?
