Interesting Karim. I have not seen an RS door with 5 openings like these along the bottom of the door. Did these doors come off a particular RS? Thanks.

    Hi
I am interested in the doors if they are thin gauge genuine 471and in good condition, please let me know.
Not all 471 had thin gauge, and as said not sure about the openings on the bottom of the doors.I can check this against a friends original doors next week.

These are from a real RS.
Given/sold years ago to the seller by Mr. Bader/Porsche Classic at Porsche factory.

I was told the holes are original, as not all doors on RS were identicial.
Its very difficult to measure the thickness of metal but doors were compared to regular Touring doors and did seemed lighter.

Doors have been since cleaned and blasted with small plastic balls (not sand).
The outside door parts (skin) are not in good shape. The item is not painted.

There is some confusion in the use of "lightweight" with respect to the RS. My understanding, and hopefully Brian or other experts can confirm or correct, is that all of the first series cars, up to chassis #510, had thinner steel everywhere it was originally specified. And that was regardless of whether the car was an RSH (homologation), RS (Sport, M471, or as most everyone now calls it "lightweight"), or RSL (Touring, M472, presumably L is for Luxus?). After #510 it became a more hit-or-miss affair depending on what thin panels were left over. Once the thin stuff was exhausted, all the panels were standard, regardless of spec.

The confusion is that sometimes people mean "lightweight" to designate thin-panel cars, and sometimes people mean "lightweight" to designate the Sport version that was stripped of trim, undercoating, etc. But the two aren't equivalent; there are Touring models that have thin panels, like Brian's, and there are Sport models from Series 2/3 that have standard thickness metal.

So the door metal thickness being thin or regular has nothing to do with whether that car was RSH, RS, or RSL. It only has to do with when the doors were made.

After the first 1500, it is unlikely that the metal is thin. They used the production doors.
