Trunk locked closed, ideas on opening?

I was having some issues with the trunk lid staying closed on my 66 911, sometimes after a drive I would notice it had popped loose and although it remained shut with the latch mechanism it wasn't securely closed tight.

Not wanting to risk the hood flying open on me while driving I attempted a fix.

So I tried doing a repair to the spring (which appeared to have been previously tampered with) so it would pull the one side of the closure allowing it to secure the hood closed.

When I believed I had it fixed I closed the hood, when I attempted to release the hood it didn't release.

Now I can't open the hood, I tried pushing down on the hood while having a friend pull the release knob... nothing, I tried pulling the hood open while having the knob pulled to release it with no success.

Has anybody experienced this before, what are my options to get the hood opened?

As always suggestions welcome and appreciated,

    Regards,
    Mike

With luck, you can twist the hood and have it release. Clamp the cable (or get a very patient friend) and push down on the driver's side while lifting - as best you can - on the passenger side. The hood won't move much, but maybe enough to release. Of course, you can twist the other way as well, but if I understand your fix, the plunger is likely stuck on the edge of the receiver hole.

When I've done this in the past, I've used a thin wedge of wood under the leading edge for the side that gets lifted.

Hi Mike. This happened to me several times when re-fitting my 66 911 hood after paint. Obviously the latch mechanism is off center. For me the cure was to push like there is no tomorrow on the leading edge of the hood back towards the windshield as your friend gently pulls the cable release. Don't pull up on the latch, push down! I can feel your pain. Skeeters

Thanks guys, I do appreciate your suggestions. It's frustrating but I've got to get it opened so I'll keep trying, hope your ideas work.

With some patience, persistence and advice from Skeeters & Eminence Gris I got the front luggage lid unlocked... thanks guys. I have ordered another lower latch and will replace it once it arrives.

Now on to the next project,
    Mike

Why replace it? Figure out what was wrong to begin with and fix it.

Hello Skeeters, when I was experiencing issues with the hood staying locked down I decided to explore why this was happening. I noticed that a previous owner had attempted a repair that was probably responsible for my issue. I tried to repair it but when it locked closed on me I realized I didn't want to risk it any longer so I ordered a replacement latch.

Honestly, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.
If your Porsches are anything like mine, just push your hand up through
the gaping rust hole and pull the hood release....
