    Door/fender panel gaps

Did the early cars also come with about 4mm panel gaps, or do we whish the did... I have lately seen untouched swb cars with 6-8 mm gaps mostely in the arear where the door meet the top fender arear with the durant mirror.

Do we make the cars look to " spot on" when we reasturate them?

Could the german metal guy have had a bad " hair day" when leaving gaps more than 4 mm, or did they always leve perfect leaded shaped straigth on 4 mm gaps.

I would like to hear your expirence with the assembly of the early cars.

the guys who do concours restorations do it to perfect...
i doubt that the untouched car you saw has 6 to 8mm....4-6 would be credible in this area.

i currently working on an car that was untouched until it came in my shop...gaps are nice but not perfect

same with an other first paint car i had in storage...

what i have noticed is that the later the cars the sloopier the hole body is weldet together.

From this thread it appears to be 3-4mm.

It's called over restoration. A friend calls it "historical fiction". Everyone (almost everyone) restores a car to better than new condition. People restore the cars to perfection and the PCA encourages this. That's why original cars are now worth more than restored cars.

What's really interesting is that the top restoration shops will now create an original car for you. They actually create all of the standard production imperfections.

    Richard,

This is actually nothing new. Guys like Tim Goodrich were already doing this 15-20 years ago. It is good to see that other shops have caught up
