1973 Recaro Sport seats with consoles - components, material, etc.

Do you have a pair of 1973 Recaro Sports seats ?

I have to retrim the centres in houndstooth and ideally would like them trimmed by a trimmer that can achieve as an original finish on the frames and seats as possible.

So I need some help to find some seats in any condition and then someone to trim them correctly.

The 1973 material is unique to that year and I am aware is difficult if not impossible to find and ditto the houndstooth.

If you can help it would be greatly appreciated in finding the seats, the frames, the vinyl and the houndstooth.

Of course if you a pair of original seats with houndstooth centres name your price.

    I hope you can help

These are NOT for SALE but just wanted to show you what Tony Garcia of Autobahn Interiors can do to seats like these with the correct vinyl and the correct Houndstooth fabric from Soterik which unfortunately is no longer available since his last supply a few months back. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for that. It may be the photo but the vinyl looks greyer than I would have expected. It would be interesting to see a closeup of the vinyl as that is the most difficult to reproduce.

Buying a pair of standard correct seats and retrimming the centres is therefore the prefered option but thanks for the photos and very high quality trimming.

Where are all those replica owners that want to cash in on their original seats ? I have a pair of Deser seats with consoles that are finished in black with corduroy centres to trade if it helps.

I can attest to the 72/73 vinyl that Tony has as being as close as I have seen to original 72/73 pattern and its not grey its black, I just acquired a roll from him

    Thanks Clyde.

Do you have a close up photo of the grain of the vinyl you bought Clyde so I can see the texture and the code of the vinyl. PM me if you like.

It is a shame those seats had been recovered as I need hounds tooth centres.

They are an option though as I imagine it would not be too difficult to retrim the centres. At $9K plus shipping price is not out of the ball park even with the extra work just a shame to do it.

    Still looking.

    Mark,
Here is a swatch comparison. Left, is original from my '72 and the right swatch is from Tony Garcia.

Yes thanks Dave. They are still an option but the fact they are currently being refurbished with materials that have not been approved by me and probably means they will have to be done again.

I am looking for Porsche original materials and a finish commensurate with the marque, and to achieve that I have to buy an original pair with hounds tooth centres in perfect condition (unlikely) or refinish a pair of seats.

It seems a shame to start again and just like the ones offered here it is a shame to undo a trimmers hard work when the seats have been finished or nearly finished especially when most buyers will be perfectly satisfied with the results achieved.
